Best free Minecraft texture pack makers (2026)
The short answer: for a whole Java Edition texture pack with nothing to install, use MineTexture. For detailed 3D models, entity animation or Bedrock Edition, use Blockbench. If you already know an image editor such as Aseprite, GIMP or Krita, you can paint textures there and build the pack folder by hand.

Quick picks
- Best for a complete texture pack in the browser: MineTexture. Free, no account, loads the game's own textures for the version you pick, writes
pack.mcmetaand exports a pack.zip. Also edits animations, 3D block and item models, sounds and game text, and works on phones and tablets. - Best for 3D models and Bedrock: Blockbench. Free and open source, on Windows, macOS, Linux and the web. It is the standard tool for detailed models, entity models and animations, and supports Bedrock Edition.
- Best for high-resolution painting: an image editor you already know, such as Aseprite (paid), GIMP or Krita (both free). You'll extract the textures and set up the pack folder yourself.

How to choose
You want to change how blocks and items look
Start in MineTexture, or pick one of the starter templates to begin from a ready-made style. You paint over the game's real textures, and the pack files are handled for you.
You want custom 3D models or mob animations
Use Blockbench. MineTexture can import a Blockbench .bbmodel if you want to texture it and put it in a pack.
You only have a phone or a school laptop
MineTexture runs in the browser, so there is nothing to install. See how to make a texture pack on your phone.
You play Bedrock Edition
MineTexture makes Java Edition packs only. For Bedrock, use Blockbench and a Bedrock resource pack template.
Frequently asked questions
What is the easiest way to make a Minecraft texture pack?
Open a browser-based maker such as MineTexture, pick your Minecraft version, paint over a texture and click Export. The .zip goes in your resourcepacks folder. The resource pack guide shows the same thing by hand.
Is there a free Minecraft texture pack maker online?
Yes. MineTexture is free, runs in the browser and needs no account. Blockbench also has a free web version, focused on 3D models.
Can I make animated textures?
Yes. Draw the frames yourself, or use MineTexture's Auto Animate to generate them from one of 92 effects; the .mcmeta is written for you. See how to animate textures.
Blockbench, GIMP, Krita, Photoshop and Aseprite are the trademarks of their owners. MineTexture isn't affiliated with any of them, or with Mojang or Microsoft. For more detail, see MineTexture vs Blockbench vs image editors.
